Wide-open grassland and panoramic views from the hills
Situated within Aso-Kuju National Park , Kuju Highland offers expansive views of open, grassy plains with mountains in the background. Mt. Kuju offers great views from its summit and the chance to see the area's flora and fauna.
How to Get There
Oita Station is served by the Kyudai, Hohi, and Nippo Main Lines and offers access to much of Kyushu .
From Oita Station , take the JR Hohi Line for about 80 minutes and get off at Bungo-Taketa Station, from which Kuju Highland is a 30-minute drive or taxi ride.

Sights and smells
The beautiful grassland is maintained with a controlled burn in spring, which has earned the Kuju Highlands the title of one of the 100 most aromatic landscapes in Japan.
Kuju Flower Park
With Mt. Kuju as a backdrop, this park's distinctive carpet of multicolored flowers offers a great spot for photography, relaxation or walking.
Some 500 species of flowers are grown in every season and form a vast carpet of blooms. See the tulips in spring, lavender in early summer, and cosmos in autumn.
The park has a wide variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants, making it popular for a day excursion.
Guernsey Farm
This farm raises Guernsey cattle, which are famed for the rich flavor and golden color of their milk. It consists of a factory where a range of dairy products are made, a restaurant, a shop, and a compact playground where children can play with small animals.
Join a tour of the factory to see the production of the dairy products or try the Guernsey milk ice cream.
Kuju Winery
This winery is located at the foot of Mt. Kuju and has its own vineyard, brewery, and bottling facility. A good selection of wines, including rice varieties, is on sale at the shop.
Try a free tasting experience at the shop counter or enjoy some pizza hot from the oven at the restaurant terrace while taking in views of Mt. Kuju. The wine-flavored ice cream is worth a try, although it is not available between December and March.
