See the whole region from this little mountain in the middle of a city

Bizan is a mountain, and also the name of a movie. More than that, this scenic spot is the dominant feature of Tokushima City . Bizan is easily accessible and offers outstanding views not only of the city but of the Yoshino River delta and the ocean.

Don't Miss

  • The expansive views from the summit, which are stunning day or night
  • The distinctive Burmese pagoda for fallen soldiers
  • Cherry blossoms in spring and the leaves turning in autumn

How to Get There

You can reach the mountaintop by ropeway.

Walk for 10 minutes from Tokushima Station toward the Awa Odori Kaikan , then take the Bizan Ropeway to the top.

The symbol of Tokushima City

No visit to Tokushima City would be complete without a visit to Mt. Bizan, as this 290-meter-tall mountain is a defining element of the city landscape.

The Japanese character for "eyebrow" is in the mountain's name as it's elongated horizontal shape resembles one. The mountain was even one of the locations for the filming of the 2007 Japanese movie "Bizan.”

Sights to see near and far

Once at the summit, you'll be rewarded with terrific views of Tokushima City below. When the weather is clear, you may even see Awaji Island and Wakayama Prefecture's Kii Mountain Range far out in the distance across the water.

Mayuge-kyo

The kaleidoscopic "Mayuge-kyo," which incorporates over 4,000 LEDs, is a tourist site that illustrates Tokushima's connection to the LED industry. There is also a Burmese pagoda that is a monument honoring fallen Japanese soldiers from World War II.
