A park overflowing with flowers and a folklore village next door
Located in Kitakami in central Iwate, Kitakami Tenshochi Park has a variety of flowers and sights for visitors to enjoy. The Kitakami Tenshochi Sakura Festival is held from mid- April to May. See how people used to live in Iwate at Michinoku Folklore Village next door. You can spend a whole or half day enjoying the park and the Folklore Village.

How to Get There
Accessible from Kitakami Station.
It is a 20-minute walk from the east exit at Kitakami Station.
Beautiful in all seasons
Kitakami Tenshochi Park is a great place to relax or go for a stroll along the Kitakami River. Many of the trees at Tenshochi were planted 100 years ago. Over 10,000 cherry trees line the two-kilometer walking path.
There are also over 100,000 azaleas in the park that bloom in a rainbow of colors. In the autumn, you can enjoy the changing colors of the leaves. In the winter, swans migrate to Tenshochi, and you can feed them or just admire their beauty.
A trip back in time
Michinoku Folklore Village has 28 preserved buildings from various periods. The buildings include a pit structure, a samurai's house, and a merchant's house.
The farmer's house, the oldest building onsite, has been designated an Important Cultural Property. Throughout the Folklore Village, you'll find displays and exhibitions you can touch and experience.
