Makino Botanical Garden is located on Mt. Godai, just a short 20-minute drive from downtown Kochi City
Located across from Chikurinji Temple 
, temple 31 of Shikoku's 88 Temple Pilgrimage , this garden sits in a prime location to take in the views of the city, facing the Pacific Ocean, just a few kilometers away.

How to Get There
Take the bus, which operates between Kochi Station, Mt. Godai , and Katsurahama Beach . It takes about 25 minutes, and there is a one-day pass for unlimited rides between Kochi Station and Mt. Godai .
A taxi ride from Kochi Station to the summit takes about 20 minutes.
Spend an afternoon in the garden
You will be able to stroll around the garden and enjoy the ever-changing colors and scents as it changes through the seasons. There have been a few additions over the years since it was opened in 1958.
You can picnic on an open-lawned area, walk through the native trees and flora, which act as the main entrance to the garden, see some of the many hundreds of species of plants used for medical purposes, or sit by the pond in the south garden.
The garden is named after Dr. Tomitaro Makino, considered to be the father of botany in Japan. He was born in a nearby village, only 30 kilometers from the garden.
