A popular ski resort with deep powder snow and nearby hot springs
Myoko is a city in southern Niigata Prefecture that is nationally known for its ski resorts. Among them, Akakura Onsen Ski Resort is one of the most popular.
How to Get There
Accessible by train and taxi, or by car.
Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo and change at Nagano Station to the Kita Shinano Line (Nagano Railway) to the final station, Myoko Kogen Station. Akakura Onsen is a 10-minute taxi ride from the station.
By car, take the Joshinetsu Expressway and disembark at Myoko Kogen Interchange. Akakura Onsen is six kilometers from there on Route 18.
Akakura's snow activities
Surrounded by high mountains, Akakura Onsen Ski Resort has been in operation since 1937. The longest course in the ski resort is four kilometers and there are a total of 17 courses for all levels of skiers. At this enjoyable resort, you have the choice of skiing on normal runs, moguls, terrain parks, and more.
A hot spring town
At the foot of Mt. Akakura is a hot spring town where you can reward your body after a day on the surrounding ski slopes.
From Akakura Onsen Ski Resort, you can see Lake Nojiri and the Sea of Japan on a fine day.
