Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival 金沢百万石まつり

A mesmerizing parade through the city will captivate you with traditional dancing and music in the streets. The Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival is an exciting tribute to feudal history.

From Tokyo, take the bullet train to Kanazawa Station , about two and a half hours away. From Osaka and Kyoto, you can take the limited express in the same amount of time.

Every year, on the first weekend of June, people gather in the center of the city for the Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival. On Saturday, it starts with a send-off at Kanazawa Station . Taiko drum performances kick off the parade with an energetic performance in front of the Tsuzumi-mon gate.

The parade advances through the streets of Kanazawa for about two and a half hours until Toshiie Maeda, played by an actor, and the samurai warriors and princesses, reach Kanazawa Castle . Here, celebrations and reenactments continue, along with a bonfire and Noh performances.

After the main parade, you'll be able to see summer festival dances performed by locals in the streets of the Korinbo area. Throughout the festival, activities such as tea ceremonies at Kenrokuen Garden , and children's lantern drum parades happen throughout the city.
