The best way to reach Tairyuji Temple

Located in the small town of Wajiki in the Naka district of Tokushima on the island of Shikoku , the Tairyuji Ropeway is the longest ropeway in western Japan. It was built primarily to provide access to the mountain ridge that is home to Tairyuji Temple, the 21st temple on the 88-temple Shikoku Pilgrimage circuit.

Fantastic views of Tokushima

As the ropeway car ascends toward Tairyuji Temple, you can take in fantastic views of the Naka River below and its picturesque, rural scenery.

Once at the top, visit the peaceful mountain environs of Tairyuji Temple and appreciate the serenity of its protected wilderness. Take some time to stroll along the ridge that leads to the statue of monk Kobo Daishi (also known as Kukai). On a clear day, the ocean will be visible on the horizon.
