Shinsakai Riverside Cherry Blossoms 新境川 百十郎桜

With 1,000 cherry trees lining the Shinsakai River, the springtime floral phenomenon known as the Shinsakai Riverside Blossoms is a huge draw in Gifu Prefecture . Picnickers and revelers join in the festivities and enjoy viewing the cherry blossoms.

You can reach the riverside by taking a train and then a short walk.

From Nagoya , take the Meitetsu Inuyama Line to Inuyama Station and transfer to the Meitetsu Kakamigahara Line. Get off at Shiminkoen-mae Station which is right next to the river.

From Gifu City , take the Meitetsu Kakamigahara Line to Shiminkoen-mae.

Japan Rail Pass holders should take the JR Takayama Line to Naka Station. From there, the waterway is a 10-minute walk.

Most of the year, Kakamigahara is an average commuter town on the outskirts of Gifu City , but every spring, these waterside cherry blossoms turn it into a major destination.

Lining both banks of the Shinsakai River are more than 1,000 cherry trees, and people come from far and wide to stroll beneath the boughs, eat seasonal dishes, and drink as part of the hanami cherry blossom celebrations.
