A must-visit hot spring resort town close to Tokyo

Hakone is located in the east of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park , and is one of the most popular hot spring towns in Japan. It is an easy day trip from Tokyo, and has plenty of accommodation options for longer stays.

How to Get Here

Hakone-Yumoto Station is the gateway to Hakone. It is located in the western part of Kanagawa Prefecture, and is easily accessible from Tokyo.

Take the Odakyu Line from Shinjuku Station to Hakone-Yumoto Station (about 90 minutes)

Take the Tokaido Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Odawara Station, and then take the Hakone Tozan Line from Odawara Station to Hakone-Yumoto Station (about 55 minutes)

Hakone's natural hot springs

Located in the east of Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park , Hakone is one of the most popular hot spring towns in Japan. The area was a key rest stop along the Tokaido Highway during the Edo period (1603-1867). There are a great many hot springs to enjoy in Hakone, each with different spring qualities.

Stunning mountain and lake views

Hot springs are not all Hakone has to offer. The area is surrounded by mountains, including Mt. Kamiyama and Mt. Komagatake, which has a ropeway offering stunning area views, featuring the iconic Mt Fuji. Nearby Lake Ashinoko is a relaxing spot for sightseeing due to its stunning scenery and cruises.
