Tumultuous past, peaceful present
Over its long and troubled history, Toyama Castle has been destroyed and reconstructed numerous times. The current building, a concrete reconstruction, dates from 1954 and faithfully reproduces the external appearance of the historic keep. The castle interior now serves as a museum space, hosting both an exhibit on local history and items from the art collection of Sato Sukekuro.
When to go
Toyama Castle is open year-round except for the two-day period from Dec. 31 to Jan. 1. Business hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is 210 yen to enter the castle keep and 310 yen to view the exhibits while you're there.
