An annual summer festival packed with fun
Kurayoshi Utsubuki Festival is a yearly summer festival. Held on the first Saturday and Sunday of August, the festival reaches a grand finale with a massive firework display next to the Tenjingawa River.
How to Get There
The best way to get to this festival is by bus.
Taking the Hinomaru Bus from Kurayoshi Station to Shiyakusyo Utsubuki ko-en Iriguchi will get you there in about 15 minutes.
Two days of fun
On the first day, the festival is concentrated in the Utsubuki Tamagawa area, which used to be the main center of the city before the main train station was moved to Agei. A large parade winds its way through the decorated streets with as many as 1,500 people taking part. Each school, club, and organization in the city is represented in a show of color and coordination.
On the second day, the Utsubuki "heavenly maiden" contest is held, as well as live performances from local bands and dance groups. Tons of different yatai, or festival vendors, line up near the river and you can enjoy strolling and snacking through the area. It concludes with a spectacular fireworks display over the river with over 4,000 fireworks being launched.
