TOP RECOMMENDATIONS Sahoro Resort
A resort base and action-packed slopes
The Sahoro Resort Ski area is located near the center of Hokkaido, and you can access the resort’s 21 varied courses by an 80-minute drive from Obihiro Airport. The slopes are geared towards both beginners and advanced-level snow travelers — there is a gentle, 2,700m long slope that runs from the top of the mountain to the bottom, ideal for first-timers, while the northern slopes experience plenty of high-quality snowfall for pro-level skiers and snowboarders to carve through. If you want to take in some spectacular Hokkaido scenery, head to the top of the 1000-meter-high ski slope for beautiful 360 degree panoramic views of the Tokachi Plains, the Tokachidake mountain range, and the Hidaka Mountains.

Five ungroomed courses of perfect Sahoro powder
The Sahoro powder that falls on the area is a very dry snow, only generally found in inland areas. If you want to take advantage of this high-quality snow, head to the northern slopes where the best powder falls. A 1,498-meter-long high-speed lift fitted with a hood can whisk you up to five ungroomed snow courses that are the perfect place to enjoy the Sahoro powder after a fresh snowfall.
Sleeping bears and snow-groomers — join a unique winter tour
Take some time away from the slopes to enjoy the other activities in the Sahoro Resort area. Backcountry tours, airboard tours, pond smelt fishing, and downhill snowshoeing are just some of the activities on offer. The resort has unique experiences including the "Brown Bear Hibernation Observation Tour" where you can seek out hibernating bears and listen to them snoring. Alternatively, join the "Freezing Night Snow-Groomer Tour" where you head to the mountain summit on a snow groomer.
