Exciting activities for first-time snowgoers and experts alike

Hoshino Resorts TOMAMU is most famous for its large hotel and range of snow activities, and its inland location creates the ideal conditions for dry powder snow. The trails, which are well-balanced for beginners, intermediates and advanced skiers and snowboarders, are served by one gondola and five lifts. Take your time as you head down runs as long as 4,200 meters. Family-friendly features include facilities for children, an Ice Village and the magnificent scenery of the Terrace of Frost Tree. Even if you don't ski, there is plenty to do for first-time snow travelers. Experienced skiers shouldn't feel left out though, as the experts only powder area, snowcat tours and backcountry tours give ample opportunities to enjoy perfect, untouched snow.

How to get there

By train

From New Chitose Airport, take the JR Rapid Airport train to Minami-Chitose Station. There, change to a Limited Express train to Tomamu Station. From Sapporo Station, take the Limited Express train all the way to Tomamu Station. Shuttle buses run from Tomamu Station to the resort.

By bus

Frost trees and kids' facilities — special winter experiences

Tomamu is made up of two connected skiable faces: the tower side, with hotels, and the Tomamu side, with the gondola. The tower side has gentle slopes, with one course used exclusively for beginners and sledding. It also features the world's first themed family slope, perfect for kids and first-timers. Take the gonadola to the summit to see the magical landscape of the Terrace of Frost Tree, and then head down the beginner-friendly 4,200-meter-long course on skis, snowboard or snow kart.

Experience subzero fun in the Ice Village

Next to the main hotel is the Ice Village, a crystalline town made entirely of ice thanks to Tomamu temperatures that can reach as low as -30 degrees Celsius. Try a host of unique experiences, like a stay at the Ice Hotel (one group per night) or a round of drinks in glasses made of ice at the Ice Bar. An ice rink and ice slide round out the town. Nearby is an indoor pool called Mina-Mina Beach, which includes Japan's largest wave pool. Other Tomamu activities include snowshoeing, snow rafting, snow banana boating, snowmobiling, and snow buggy rides, and ice fishing. Alternatively, take a baumkuchen cake baking class and learn how to bake the traditional German cake.

Comfortable stays at three resort hotels

The ski resort directly manages two lodging facilities: Tomamu the Tower, and Risonare Tomamu — an all-suite hotel. There are family rooms for those with children at Tomamu the Tower, in addition to the standard rooms. Risonare Tomamu is an all-suite hotel with large, comfortable rooms — each room measures at least 100 square meters. You can enjoy a luxury winter getaway here as each room has a sauna and jet bath with scenic views.
