Course Variety
Slopes to suit you — plenty of variety at Japanese ski resorts
Ski resorts in Japan have a variety of slopes that cater to all levels of skiers and snowboarders. Most resorts have trails in a range of length and skill levels, from beginner to expert. Beginner trails are gentle slopes perfect for learning the basics, while more advanced courses are steeper and may include challenging features like ungroomed snow and moguls. Japan's grooming capabilities are world-class, but ungroomed runs are the perfect way to experience the country's famous powder snow. Courses range from wide, open bowls and ridgelines, to narrow trails through the trees. Many resorts have designated tree-skiing areas that allow riders to dip into powder stashes in well-spaced forests.
Generally, you can access the trails at Japanese ski resorts by traditional chairlifts, but you may also find enclosed gondolas and large ropeways, which also allow non-skiers to enjoy mountaintop views. Large snow resorts have a similar diversity of lodging and amenities, making the base of these mountains as exciting as their summits.
