<shizuoka area>
The Pacific Cycling Road is the longest cycling route in Japan, stretching for 1,487 kilometers from Choshi in Chiba Prefecture to Wakayama City. Shizuoka, Aichi, and Mie prefectures make up roughly half the route (835 kilometers), and each area has its own special nature, history, and culture.
Shizuoka is largely separated into the four areas of Izu Peninsula, Suruga Bay, Shida-Haibara, and Hamamatsu. A route with a view of the World Heritage Site Mt. Fuji, the rich nature of the sea and mountains of the Izu Peninsula, and the historic onsen towns Atami and Ito, each with their own different scenery, weather, and allure. If you are heading for Aichi with Shizuoka City as your starting point, the most typical route runs along the coastline towards Hamamatsu.
<Aichi Area>
After passing through Shizuoka's Hamamatsu and Lake Hamana area, you'll come to Aichi's Atsumi Peninsula. Situated between Mikawa Bay and the Pacific Ocean, Atsumi Peninsula is warm year-round, and boasts beautiful scenery and historic villages. The Cycling Road also has a spacious lane exclusive to walkers and cyclists for a stress-free cycling experience. See spots like the Hii-no-Sekimon Stone Gate or Kojigahama Beach, enjoy fresh seafood from the harbor, and experience more wonders unique to this area.
<Mie Area>
After you've had your fun in Atsumi Peninsula, boarding the cyclist-friendly Ise Bay Ferry en route to Mie's Toba area is a popular plan with cyclists. The 294-kilometer cycling route that starts in Toba leads through Ise-Shima National Park, takes you by the Toba and Ise Bay, and also comes close to historic spots like Japan's famous Ise Grand Shrine. Mie has plenty of nature, history, and tradition to enjoy, so get ready to immerse yourself in the serene experiences it offers.
