Sea Salt Making in Oku Noto

None None

Take part in Noto Peninsula’s traditional salt harvesting

The rugged coastline of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture has been used to harvest sea salt in the same traditional way for around 500 years. From July to mid-October at Okunoto Salt Farm Village, you can observe this labor-intensive process. It involves spraying seawater over a sand terrace, evaporating it, and boiling the brine. If you book ahead, you can take part in the salt-making process yourself.

When to go: May through September
