Cool down with elegant kaiseki cuisine atop a flowing river
Beat the heat with a traditional kaiseki meal at a kawadoko, a Kyoto summer staple in which customers sit on a floor built over a river. Kawadoko are an ingenious way to keep guests cool during the scorching Kyoto summers. Water flowing over skillfully placed rocks on the riverbed creates an extra-refreshing sensation. Many kawadoko are located along the Kamo River and in the Kibune area.
When to go: June through September
