Nanto Town in Toyama Prefecture is known for its wealth of talented carpenters and woodcarvers. The area became a center of woodworking excellence after an unknown sculptor from Kyoto was dispatched to the area to pass on his knowledge. Take a wood carving lesson to learn the skills these craftspeople have since handed down from generation to generation. After picking up the basics, you can make your own sake cup from camphor, paulownia, and zelkova wood.
