I want to visit Japan. Do I need a visa?
All foreign visitors must have a valid passport. Passport holders of some countries (and some regions) do not need a visa if their period of stay in Japan is 90 days or less and they are only engaging in tourism activities. How long does it take to get a visa for tourists?
Processing times vary but generally take around five business days.
How long can I stay in Japan for travel?
Most short-term stays allow up to 90 days. Some nationalities may be granted 15, 30, or 180 days.
What can't I do on a visa for tourists?
You cannot:
- Engage in paid work
- Enroll in long-term educational programs
- Apply for residency
