Journey by relaxing canoe to a quiet hidden spot near Yamagata’s Lake Hyakushu with your guides

"The other side of the mountains, another Japan. Yamagata." This is how former U.S. Ambassador to Japan Dr. Edwin O. Reischauer described it. Surrounded by some of Japan's “100 Famous Mountains,” Yamagata offers the unique charm of natural landscapes that can only be felt in this region.

Located in the upper reaches of Nagaihyakushu Lake, this canoe field offers a sense of unexplored territory even though it is not far from Yamagata’s urban areas.  We will guide you on a half-day tour that will take you both physically and mentally into nature.

As you canoe further into the cliffs of sheer granite, you will find yourself in a different space, cut off from the outside world. Mifuchi Valley, where the air remains cool and quiet even in midsummer, is a power spot (an area believed to provide people with refreshing energy) where the legend of a dragon god remains. It will truly fill you with emotion that cannot be expressed in words.

This is a small adventure tour where you can experience sacred history and culture while enjoying a leisurely canoe ride with a guide. Anyone who has ever ridden a canoe or has average physical strength can participate. Rest assured that at least two guides will accompany you at all times.
