Enjoy wisteria of many colors and shapes in Konan City

Mandaraji Temple in the Owari region is a very prestigious temple. It was founded in the early 14th century at the behest of Emperor Godaigo, and its main hall and other buildings are designated as national important cultural properties. The area around this famous temple in the city of Konan has been maintained as a park since around 1970 and is known as a famous sightseeing spot for Japanese wisterias.
The wisteria pergolas (the longest is 75 meters long and covers an area of 4,700 square meters) set up in the park have about 60 wisterias from eleven species ranging from early to late bloomers. They offer a variety of wisteria flowers, including purple, red, white, and other brightly colored varieties, as well as elegant varieties with long clusters and short, dainty varieties. From mid-April to early May, when the flowers are in their prime, the Konan Wisteria Festival is held at Mandaraji Park, attracting many tourists from the city and beyond. During the festival, the wisteria pergolas are lit up at night, and various events such as live music are held to entertain visitors. In the park, visitors can also enjoy flowers such as peonies and rhododendrons during the same period.
The park also has a pavilion, a pond, and a stage.
How to get there
Walk from JR Nagoya Station to Meitetsu Nagoya Station(5 minutes). Take a train from Meitetsu Nagoya Station to Konan Station (20 minutes), then take a bus to the Konan apartment complex and get off at Mandaraji Temple (15 minutes).
