Join this tour to take a snowshoe trek across the wintry landscapes of Yamagata Prefecture and see one of Japan’s rare massive ice falls.

Starting at Zao Liza World Ski Resort, your guide will take you to the Senninzawa Ice Garden to see a huge ice waterfall that is around 30 meters tall and over 10 meters wide. Besides the fantastical shapes created by the falling frozen water, the glowing aquamarine blue color of the ice looks almost surreal. If you are lucky to visit on a sunny day, the “blue ice” phenomenon will be even clearer.

Along the tour route, you will see trees covered in snow (the region’s famous “snow monsters”), ice fields, and more.

The tour runs from January through March.
