Stay fit while traveling around Shikoku at a fitness and nature-inspired retreat in Otoyo
Kochi Prefecture
Just a few train stops away from the Iya Valley lies the quiet little town of Otoyo in Kochi Prefecture. The area is home to CrossFit Otoyo Strength, one of Shikoku’s few CrossFit gyms, as well as a nearby sustainable, female architect-designed tiny house, both made from local hinoki cypress wood.
CrossFit Otoyo Strength is an innovative, woman-run fitness facility that has brought new life and visitors to the sleepy town in Kochi Prefecture. At this facility overlooking the pristine Yoshino River, guests can enjoy one-on-one personal training sessions, as well as regular group classes and sports physio offering a chance to meet fitness-loving locals.
Whether you’re looking for a night surrounded by nature or a workcation with full access to the gym, the tiny house next door provides welcoming accommodations. Wake up to inspiring views of the valley and rice fields, with direct access to the river below. Gym usage is free for all guests during gym hours, and there are also free BBQ and firepit facilities for long evenings under the stars.
The facility offers wild versions of BBQ meat sets for an additional fee.
CrossFit Otoyo Strength also makes an excellent base for those who want to take on the Yoshino River, considered one of Japan’s top white water rafting spots.
