Unwind in Shimane Prefecture
Relax in a luxurious Japanese inn
In remote Shimane Prefecture, a sparsely populated prefecture in the western part of Japan’s main island, is KAI Tamatsukuri. It is located within Tamatsukuri Onsen, a charming and historic hot spring town by the shores of Lake Shinji. But its out-of-the-way location doesn't hinder the ryokan-style (inn-style) resort from offering all the luxuries associated with traditional Japanese hospitality. Every room has its own outdoor hot spring, as well as an indoor bath. You won't even need to bring pajamas, since you'll be provided with comfortable yukata.
And come hungry: dinner is a multi-course kaiseki feast with almost more food than you can eat, and breakfast is a spread of a wonderful variety of dishes. Everything is lovingly prepared with fresh, local ingredients. If you want the full hot spring experience, take a dip in the ryokan’s public bath. Massage services are also available if you’ve been feeling a bit tense.
Access: By air, fly from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Izumo Airport (about one hour 25 minutes). By airport shuttle bus, it will take about 35 minutes to reach JR Tamatsukuri Onsen Station, then about five minutes by taxi to reach the resort. From the airport by rental car or taxi, it will take approximately 40 minutes to reach the resort.
Contribution to Sustainability
Look forward to exceptional hospitality, accompanied with local cultural performances in the evenings, and exquisite dishes prepared using local seafood specialties. KAI brand including Tamatsukuri also strives for sustainability by recycling toothbrushes and installing water servers instead of providing disposable plastic bottles in the guest rooms.
