Go Kayaking on Winter Waters with Diamond-like Clarity
Experience the wonders of nature up close on the lake and shore
Lake Shikotsu: a sparkling jewel within the Shikotsu-Toya National Park in Hokkaido famed for its crystal-clear waters. So pristine, in fact, the lake has been rated among the purest nationwide for many consecutive years. Nowhere else in Japan can you see so deeply into the lake, a sight you can fully enjoy on a clear-bottom kayak tour.
Autumn visitors can expect a visual feast of colored leaves, frogs about to spawn, and sockeye salmon. Winter adds the magic of the surrounding snowy peaks, as well as possible glimpses of wild deer and foxes on the shores.
Access: From Sapporo Station, take the Rapid Airport train to Chitose Station (about 30 minutes) and transfer to the Hokkaido Chuo Bus Shikotsuko to Shikotsuko (about 45 minutes).
